“Love On Top” – Leroy’s Version

The first time I heard this song, I know it would be a hit. I randomly do #AlbumAppreciation and I’ve done it to Beyonce’s 4 one day. This single gave me a feeling I cannot forget. (Talk about exaggeration, eh? Haha.) I fell in love with its beat, the lyrics, the vocals. Everything.

It challenged Beyonce. I would bet on that. And it challenges anybody who tries to do a cover. I mean, the song’s high and it gets higher and higher as the song ends.

It took time, but let’s admit, it went viral. I am certain I loved it first before all the others. Haha. It was my good-mood song every morning. The first track I play on my phone on my way to work.

Few weeks after I developed my liking on it, the song’s playing everywhere. It’s being sang on TV, covered on YouTube. It was phenomenal. More, after B released the video for it.

In my previous job, it was our opes’ national anthem. There was a week that this song was played in the beginning of work, during lunch break, and anytime in the afternoon. Oh, make that weeks. And while it’s playing, my fellas and I are a choir.

Just recently, I missed hearing it. I lost it from my phone when I re-synced. So I searched covers of the song on YouTube and I saw this one that got more than a million hits. I got curious to know what caused its tipping point. I assumed that it’s because it’s a guy’s cover and guys will find it difficult to sing unless they are JRome. I realized I’m wrong.

Doing a cover of this viral song, with vocals like his, and, of course, his cute looks, it would definitely tip. I got hooked myself. Haha.

So here it is. Find out why Leroy’s version of Love On Top got more than a million views. More than 10 of it by me. Haha.

What is your opinion about getting outside the comfort zone comfortably?

This came from a very close friend who is curious to know if there is any easier (or easy) way to get out of the square-ish or circular area we are cozily in.

Why is it important anyway?

Getting out of the comfort zone means that we need to welcome the unusual. We need to adjust to change. We need to be susceptible to something new. It is not certain, though, that it will yield the result that we are eyeing for.

Whether it hits the bull’s eye or not, this act will definitely better us in most ways. It will reveal things that we never thought we could do. It will lay down more opportunities in our path, thus, giving us more chances to succeed in life. It will make us realize that there is a world out there full of knowledge and potential, and that it isn’t small after all.

As Neale Walsh said, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” You are not officially living unless you go out. (Read More)

Overfilled, Overweight Ships Sink

Ships were created to carry people and their baggages from one place to another. But when a ship contains more than the capacity it can handle, it’s very dangerous. Same thing applies to airplanes. Don’t blame gravity. People were given choices and the power to decide.

I would like to stop here and not go any further to frame my point.

I would like to tell a story about someone I know who is very reserved when it comes to sharing her problems. She choose to contain most of the issues to herself. She will try to resolve conflicts her way and if her efforts are not enough, she will just put the problem in some refrigerator in her heart, postpone the problem solving and hope that maybe in the next few days when she’s in a different mood, she’ll nail it.

“Everyday Heroes”

When Typhoon Sendong battered the lives and homes of our brothers and sisters in Northern Mindanao, many Filipinos rose to the challenge and helped in every way they can. In behalf of Kaya Natin Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership, Ateneo School of Government and the office of Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, we would like to thank you for the time, effort and resources that you had generously given during this time of great need.

Through our collective efforts during the relief operations held at the Ateneo School of Government last December 19-21, we were able to collect and send more than 16 Army truckloads of relief goods to the affected areas in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. The transport of the relief goods was made possible through the support of the Philippine Army and Navy.

As a way of extending our gratitude, we would like to invite you for a Thanksgiving Mass to be held this coming Sunday, January 8, 2012, 3:30pm at the Church of the Gesu, Ateneo de Manila University Campus, Katipunan Road, Quezon City. A simple salu-salo merienda would come afterwards.

Let us continue to pray for fellow Filipinos who are slowly but surely rebuilding their lives.

MANILA, Philippines - From “most hated” to “most loved” airport – that’s the makeover Malacañang has vowed for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in the next few years.

“We are certainly going to perform a lot of improvements and renovations in the said airport – hopefully, to take it away from the most hated to the most loved,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a press briefing yesterday.

“There’s an emotional thing on airports? Well, (Transportation) Secretary Mar Roxas has said that the customer is always right so he has addressed that concern,” Lacierda said.

He said they had met with various sectors to discuss ways to make the country’ airports better, and Roxas briefed President Aquino on the ongoing improvements being done on NAIA terminals 1 and 3.

“There are structural renovations being done. Apart from that, we also have the interior renovations being done as well - for instance, lighting, landscaping. And, also, improving the establishments from within and ensuring that the line of sight is… the perspective of the airport which is really big-making better the perspective of the airport from within,” he said.

He added that Roxas and Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Jose Angel Honrado had presented “what’s going on and what’s going to happen.”

“There has been substantial improvement also on the restrooms in NAIA 1. There are toilet papers, water running, and better lighting conditions. There was a comment-and this is just a comment-the old restrooms-and this was what the President (also) noticed - they became like hospital restrooms. Now, it looks a lot better. I saw the improvements also in the airport two weekends ago. So certainly there has been a lot of improvement under the leadership of Secretary Mar Roxas and General Honrado,” Lacierda said.

He refused to say how much the refurbishment and upgrading of the airports would cost but conceded it would be “substantial.”

CNN’s travel site, CNNGO.com, put NAIA No. 5 on its list of the “World’s Most Hated Airports.”

NAIA, particularly Terminal 1, also ranked No. 1 among the “Worst Airports in the World,” according to The Guide to Sleeping in Airports, an interactive website that gathers reports from various reviewers.

Interviewed over YouTube’s World View series on Friday, Aquino acknowledged the need to improve the NAIA, saying the 30-year-old structure had already “reached its saturation point.”

“There is a plan for it, for improving the NAIA, structurally and aesthetically… It will be a stop-gap measure for the next four or five years because we are looking for an alternative given the fact that it will be hard for us to support the 10 million tourist arrivals that we are targeting,” the President said.Earlier, the Aquino administration was planning to relocate NAIA from Pasay City to Clark, Pampanga. The Department of Transportation and Communications is considering phasing out and selling NAIA 1 in Pasay-Parañaque to pay for the costs of the proposed Clark International Airport that will meet the long-term airport needs of the country and boost the country’s tourism industry.

However, Roxas said the plan would depend on the success of the Northrail project and the privatization of the existing NAIA property.

The government hopes to raise around $2.5 billion with the privatization of the 440-hectare NAIA property to fund NAIA’s relocation to Clark. – Aurea Calica, Rudy Santos
